Luxurious Kongde Trek, also named as Everest Yeti's Trail, is a trip designed to provide the travelers with a feeling of luxury while trekking in remote spaces of the Everest region. Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.

Welcome to Kathmandu. You will be received by one of our office representatives at the TIA exit section and escort you to your hotel afterward.

Depending on your arrival time, you will have the chance to stroll around the places nearby your hotel on your own.

Day 02: Permit preparation and trip briefing day.

Today you will have a free day in Kathmandu while your specialist will take time to arrange permits for your trek. You will have time to explore around the Kathmandu valley on your own or enjoy the cultural tour with an experienced tour guide arranged by Trek Guiders.

In the evening, you will be met by your specialist in your hotel lobby. S/he will introduce you to your guide for the trek and brief you shortly about your trek, things to do/ not to do, and any optional activities you may enjoy during the trip. You can ask any queries or share feelings with your specialist during the briefing.

Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla (2800m). Trek to Phakding (2652m)

After your breakfast in your Kathmandu hotel, you will be transferred to the domestic airport terminal reaching there 1 hour prior to your scheduled flight time. After a spectacular half an hour flight, you will reach Lukla.

The trail to today's destination descends gently downhill on pitched stone trails passing through the Rhododendron forest. As today is the first day of your trek, you will have a short day walk. Hence, you can enjoy shortstops to meet the locals, take pictures admiring the landscapes. Passing the enormous mani stones and chortens with prayer wheels, you will reach Phakding by the time for late lunch.

Rest of the day is free to rest in the riverside gardens or sun lounge.

Day 04: Trek from Phakding to Namche (3440m)

After a hearty breakfast at Phakding, start the trip to Namche following the left bank of Dudh Koshi River. You will get to catch a marvelous view of Mt. Thamserku (6623m) at the opposite side of the bank. After crossing a stream, you will climb a terraced hill from the Dudh Koshi route. Passing through a forest and trail with ups and downs, you will reach Monjo village after crossing another stream. Have your lunch here and rest some time.

From Monjo, you will start descending on stone steps until you reach a suspension bridge. After crossing the bridge and climbing up for some time, you will reach Joshale which is the entry point to the Sagarmatha National Park. Your guide will take some time to verify the permits while you can have some rest sitting there.

Walking beside the river, you will reach a forested mountainside and pass a rocky area. After crossing a high, winding path, you descend to the riverbed and reach a V-shaped valley. The river forks here: the right stream is the Dudh Koshi and the left is the Bhote Koshi that leads to Nangpa La. Crossing another suspension bridge and walking a short distance alongside the Bhote Koshi, you ascend to Tup Dhara where you will get the first view of Mount Everest. From here you ascend gradually up to Namche Bazaar (The Sherpa capital). Check in to Yeti Mountain Home, Namche.

Day 05: Rest day at Namche.

Today, right after breakfast at Namche, you will get to explore a couple of wonderful viewpoints of Namche Bazar. 

You can choose to hike to Kunde Hospital set up by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1966 A.D in Kunde Village located at an altitude of 3840m. This hospital serves approximately 8000 people of Khumbu area and carries significant importance in this area. 

You can also hike for an hour to reach Hotel Everest View, located in Khumjung village at an altitude of 3880m. This place is quite popular for a great view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Lhotse. If you have time, you can also visit the Sherpa Culture Museum which in houses traditional Sherpa household, old artifacts, and everyday objects. It is the perfect place to get a sense of Sherpa life through the ages.

After lunch you are free to head down to the Namche market to browse the shops, chat with the locals and maybe pick up a souvenir or two. You may also see the Tibetan traders who make a yearly journey over the high passes from the Tibetan plateau with their yaks laden with goods to sell at the markets. Late in the afternoon, there’s an option to visit Namche Monastery. The monastery is about 80 years old and has beautiful Thanka paintings of Tibetan deities. You are most welcome to burn a butter lamp for your loved ones. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 06: Trek from Namche to Thame (3440m)

After your breakfast at Namche, you will start your trek to Thame today. You will follow the trail passing through beautiful pine forest and typical Sherpa homes. This route is also considered to be the historical route that Sherpas used to migrate from Eastern Tibet 800 years ago. Upon reaching the Thamo Village, have some rest and enjoy your lunch.

After lunch, you will ascend gradually passing by a monastery where nuns live and reach Samden village. From here, you descend down to the bridge and cross the Bhote Koshi river. Further upward walk of 30 minutes will take you to Thame village where you will be staying today.

Day 07: Thame day excursion.

Thame is renowned for Thame Monastery, located 200m above the village and takes around half an hour walk to reach there from your lodge. It is set on the southern slope of Sumdur Mountain under a high rocky cliff. It's said that the monastery was built in the 14th century. Take some time to visit this incredible monastery after breakfast.

Thame is one of the greatest villages of Solu Khumbu that is home to many young High altitude climbing Sherpas who have climbed Mt. Everest at least 6 - 24 times.

Day 08: Trek from Thame to Kongde (4250m)

Today will be a bit long day walk up to Kongde. Right after breakfast, you will start walking downhill for around 30 minutes to Khumbu Electric Power House located at the other side of Bhote Koshi River. A further walk of 15 minutes will take you to a small village named Pare, which is a typical Sherpa village. Walking through the Pine and Bamboo forest, you will arrive in the glacier of Kongde Mountain with the fantastic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Your guide will find some good place to enjoy your lunch, which will be a pack lunch prepared for your long day walk from the YMH lodge, Thame.

After reaching Kongde after a long walk of around 7 - 8 hours, which often depends on your walking speed and rest time taken during the trek, get some rest enjoying the views of the Himalayas.

Day 09: Kongde Excursion Day.

After breakfast walk about 3 hrs to approximately 500m to Farak Ri with panoramic birds eye views of entire Khumbu Valley and view of 8000m peaks; Everest, Lhotse Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dalam, Thamserku and many other Peaks of Khumbu Valley such as Cholatse, Island Peak, etc. Get back to the resort for lunch & dinner and you can enjoy the spellbinding panoramic view of Tengboche monastery, Namche and Khumjung village. One might have ever seen from any parts of the world, and the entire Solukhumbu Ranges from this part.

Day 10: Trek from Kongde to Phakding.

After breakfast at Kongde, you will trek down to Phakding following the view of Phakding valley and excellent view of Mt. Thamserku (6623m) and range of Kangtega. Slightly descending through the jungle to Toktok village you will reach finally to Phakding.

Day 11: Trek from Phakding to Lukla.

Today is your last day of trekking. After breakfast at Phakding, you will walk to Lukla for around 3 hours. You can take some time to visit Chaurikharka High School and Kyongma Monastery on the way back. On reaching Lukla, you can check in to YMH lodge and relax the rest of the day or visit Pasang Lhamu Foundation hospital as an option.

Today is a good time to bid your porters and other crew members a farewell with tips and gratitude. Enjoy your last night of the trek in YMH, Lukla.

Day 12: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu.

Today is the return day from Lukla. Your guide will finish all the airport formalities while you are having breakfast at the lodge. The porters will manage your luggage to be transported from your lodge to the airport. Once the guide gets news about your flight arrival at Lukla airport, you will be called to see how the airplane gets landed in the small strip of Lukla airport. Afterward, you will get to the airport to get into the plan for the flight back to Kathmandu.

Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be escorted to your hotel. After lunch, the day is free. You can opt to enjoy some scenic cultural tours or relax during the day.

Day 13: Freeday in Kathmandu. Buffer day for return flight contingency.

Today is an extra day kept as a buffer day in case the flight back to Kathmandu gets disturbed due to any weather contingencies. However, if you succeeded in landing Kathmandu on the previous day, you can enjoy short day tour or have some shopping in the market to purchase a token of memory from Nepal to your home.

Day 14: Depart Kathmandu.

You will be picked up from your hotel 3.5 hours prior to your international flight time by one of our office representatives to escort you to the TIA. Trip concludes !!

Commencing this trip

Starting with a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu, this trek will have Yeti Mountain Home stays pre-arranged for all the nights for your stay. You will get to visit the top places of attraction at Khumbu areas like Namche, Thame, and Kongde with extra free days at each spots allowing you to explore the area properly. You will return back to Lukla from Kongde via Phakding to fly back to Kathmandu in a fixed winged plane.

If you are in short of time and happy to pay a bit higher budget for your trip, you can get a helicopter flight chartered for a scenic flight to the Everest Base Camp. After exploring the mountains of this region with a birds eye, you will return back to Kathmandu directly.

Best time to do this trip

As this is a luxury trip with luxury stays overnight, you are recommended to book this trip at least 6 months prior to your travel dates. Earlier the better since YMH lodges have got very limited rooms at every destination and booking this property late will make the rooms fully booked before our requests are placed.

For clear weather, this trip is recommended to be commenced between March-Mid June for Spring and from last week of September to mid- December for Autumn. These lodges remain overbooked during peak season time but if you plan out this trip soon with adequate time advance then you will be lucky to have rooms in each property of YMH lodges.
